Hello Kitty is not a cat according to an expert. Indeed, according to Christine R. Yano, the curator of an upcoming expo on Hello Kitty, she is not a cat, she is a little girl who happens to own a cat.

Hello Kitty not cat

Many will be surprised to learn that the beloved Japanese character Hello Kitty is not at all a cat.

The famous kitten like cartoon has been featured on millions of products such as bags, shirts, jewelries and shoes since 1974.

And the entire planet had always assumed that Miss Kitty was a cat, but the truth is that she is human.

The woman who blew the lid on the world’s worst kept secret is Christine R. Yano.

Yano is a Hello Kitty expert and is also an anthropologist from the University of Hawaii, who is currently in California for the forthcoming exhibit on the phenomenon called “Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty.”

The Hello Kitty retrospective will be held at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, opening on October 11th.

Talking to the Los Angeles Time, Yano who is the curator of the exhibit revealed that the biggest misconception about Hello Kitty is that she is an animal.

Yano said that Yuko Shimizu who created the fictional character for Sanrio Co., Ltd has explained to her that Kitty is a little child.

The author of Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty’s Trek Across the Pacific, pointed to the fact that the Kitty is always on two feet and not on all four like a feline.

The Harvard professor went on to give some fun facts about Kitty. She is British, because she was invented during an era when Japanese women were obsessed with the United Kingdom.

Her full name is Kitty White and she loves apple pie. She has a twin sister and her parents are George and Mary White.

Believe it or not Hello Kitty has a cat name Charmmy Kitty.
