Glenn Frey has a statue in Winslow, Arizona and fans are flocking to the location to pay homage to the iconic singer. This week, many gathered as the life-sized bronze statue of Mr. Fey, one of the founders of the rock band Eagles, was unveiled.

The legendary singer and songwriter passed away in January of this year at the age of 67 due to complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia while he was recovering from gastrointestinal tract surgery.

Frey, who was a complete artist, played guitar, piano, and keyboards. He was the lead vocalist of the Eagles and co-wrote many songs with fellow band member, Don Henley.

Frey’s unique and sublime vocals can be heard on classics like “Take It Easy,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Already Gone,” “Lying Eyes,” “New Kid in Town,” and “Heartache Tonight.”

The statue was inspired by the Eagles’ song “Take it Easy” penned by Jackson Browne and Frey. The track, which was written in 1972, includes the line “Well, I’m standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin’ down to take a look at me.”

The $22,000 Frey statue was paid for by two radio personalities from Phoenix radio station KSLX – Mark Devine and Paul “NeanderPaul” Marshall. The Standing on the Corner Foundation and the city of Winslow also contributed.

The statue depicts the look that Frey sported in the 1970s – long hair and a mustache. Frey’s statue is not too far from another one that many people say looks like Browne. It has been standing in the city’s downtown area since the late 1990s. The old statue features a man with boots, jeans, and a guitar. Devine said:

“We thought a statue would be a great way to pay tribute to his everlasting impact on Arizona’s history.”

Marshall added:

“The song has two writers, so we thought adding another statue that will last forever would be perfect.”

The dedication of the statue served as the launch of Winslow’s annual “Standing on the Corner” music festival. Visitors and festival goers can purchase Eagles posters and T-shirts in stores around Winslow Park.
