Claudia Schiffer Blackface:Claudia Schiffer Afro Controversy Response – Is there any way to defend a blackface photoshoot in this day and age? That is exactly what Claudia Schiffer is attempting to do. Recently, a number of photos that were shot several years ago by Karl Lagerfeld for an unreleased Dom Perignon ad campaign have turned up online. The pictures show Claudia Schiffer wearing black/dark make up to her appear African American, with a huge afro and some clothes to match the stereotype they were apparently going for.

In response to the backlash, representatives for those involved have said that the photos were used to represent every man’s fantasy, and that the intention behind the pictures was not a negative one at all. They are, apparently, some of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite photos of Schiffer, who has done a number of different photo shoots with the model.

While he does have creative license for his own photos, some have wondered if maybe they could have gone in another direction with the pictures. For many years African American have been sexualized by men, and this only goes to show that the way that things are perceived in this day and age are very different than they would have been quite some time ago.

It is a new age in the world. Everyone can share their opinions on a subject via their blog, facebook, or Twitter, and these pictures have caused quite a stir online. In the end, the intent of the pictures does not really matter. It is more about how the pictures were received by the public than it is about how they were intended to be perceived by the public.
