Mel Gibson Judah Maccabee Movie : New Warner Bros. Film Project
A very public antisemitic rant is not going to stop controversial actor Mel Gibson from making a movie about a Jewish figure.
Earlier this week news broke that Gibson who made headline in 2006 for insulting a Jewish police officer and blaming the ethnic group for all the wars in the world, will be a teaming up with Warner Bros. for an upcoming movie about Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee who is the hero of the Hanukkah story where he was able beat the Seleucids armies and liberate Jerusalem.
While the biopic about Judah Maccabee is only in its early stages, the Jewish community that is very upset by the idea has released several statements blasting the project.
Rabbi Marvin Heir, of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in LA, who compared Mel Gibson’s actions to those of a racist trying to do something about MLK explained:
“Casting Gibson as a director or perhaps as the star of Judah Maccabee is like casting a white supremacist to portray Martin Luther King Jr.”
Gibson who did the polemic film The Passion of the Christ in 2004 should be dropping his new controversial piece next year.
