Natalie Cole Slams Amy Winehouse Grammy Wins

Amy Winehouse Pictures

Amy Winehouse was spotted visiting her incarcerated Blake Fielder-Civil in London earlier today.Natalie Cole the daughter of Nat King Cole blasted Amy Winehouse for winning five Grammy Awards last night.Natalie insisted that ,by rewarding Winehouse the Grammys are setting a bad example for young fans. She said:

“I’m going on record as an artist who is able to critique her. I think she has a great talent but I don’t agree with the Grammys giving her those nods“I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards… It’s a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn’t have a grasp of what she has.”

Cole added:

“I’ve been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offense to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they’re in.” “She needs to get her life together and embrace her craft. She will lose it if she doesn’t get it together. Rehab is no joke, I was there for six months.”

I totally disagree with Nathalie because if they used to give rewards to only folks who were sober I would never get anything in life.

    The Bottomline:
The Grammys awards are given based on outstanding achievements in the record industry, not personal lives or demons of the artist. Natlie Cole is a massive talent but in 1975 when Cole won her first Grammys, she was also struggling with sobriety, and didn’t even enter treatment for a decade. Amy Winehouse was awarded because of her exceptional talent despite her personal demons and is even presently in treatment seeking sobriety. If the award show had anything to do with celebrating personal issues, which it does not, you could only conclude that they were congratulating a person who decided to tackle her addictions. However it does not and has nothing to with the Grammys. No one is excusing Amy’s past behavior but Cole’s statement is complete hypocrisy.
