While Hollywood heartthrob Jacob Elordi has his high-profile romance with Kendall Jenner to keep him company during a cozy Montecito date night, his days of playing toxic antagonist Nate Jacobs on Euphoria have come to a brutal, permanent end.
In a jaw-dropping plot twist just ahead of the upcoming series finale, Nate was officially killed off in a gruesome, claustrophobic sequence.
After being buried alive inside a coffin by a gangster over a million-dollar debt, Nate was left breathing through a surface pipe, giving his wife, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), exactly 72 hours to secure the cash.
However, his fate was sealed when a venomous rattlesnake slithered down the breathing pipe and bit him to death.
Rapidly breaking his silence on the shock exit in an HBO behind-the-scenes video, Jacob Elordi shared a surprisingly positive, enthusiastic message about his character’s dark demise.
Gleefully weighing in on the villain’s sins and his cruel and ultimate downfall, Jacob Elordi stated: “It was a cool way.” Nate is somebody who’s made so many mistakes and so many dark choices, it’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.”
Reflecting on the terrifying physical reality of filming the tight, coffin-bound scene with a real snake, Jacob Elordi revealed how surprisingly serene the production process felt before showrunner Sam Levinson dropped the reptile on him.
Detailing the mechanics of the box and his surprisingly sleepy snake co-star, Jacob Elordi claimed: “I had to go into this coffin, my shoulders were touching the side, and I couldn’t move my arms, and then they would drill the lid on, and it would get dark. It was really nice actually, it was quite peaceful.”
The actor admitted the peace quickly shattered when the auditory reality of the scene set in, adding: “The snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you’re locked in a box. They had a boa constrictor that they put a fake rattler on the end of, and Sam was like ‘I’m gonna drop a snake on you.’ And that was it.”
The Toxic Evolution Of Nate Jacobs
The evolution of Nate Jacobs has been fascinating to say the least. Moving from a high school golden boy masking profound psychological torment to becoming one of modern television’s most despised, dangerous villains.
In early seasons, his character arc was defined by a vicious cycle of toxic masculinity, severe identity crises, and a desperate desire to hide his father Cal’s (played by the late Eric Dane) dark, sexual double life.
Driven by intense rage and control issues, Nate terrorized everyone around him, manipulating Maddy Perez, blackmailing Jules Vaughn, and physically assaulting his peers.
By the time season three rolled around, his calculated nature further deepened and darkened. The show’s massive five-year time jump thrust him directly into a complicated adulthood.
Nate found himself in a turbulent marriage with Cassie Howard. Ultimately, his criminal dealings and spectacular arrogance caught up with him, climaxing with a literal high-stakes gangster execution.
Where The Main Characters Ended Up After The 5-Year Time Jump
Season three shook up the entire Euphoria landscape by entirely skipping the college years, plunging the core characters into highly controversial, scandalous adult realities five years into the future:
Rue Bennett (Zendaya): Still desperately navigating her fragile path to sobriety, adult Rue finds herself entangled in dangerous underbelly situations.
She continues to face death threats, navigating meetings with ruthless drug kingpins while staring down violence as the shadows of her past unpaid drug debts loom heavy.
Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney): Trapped in an emotionally unstable spiral, Cassie spent the time jump evolving her relationship with Nate, ultimately marrying him. To generate income, Cassie took up highly controversial adult work as an explicit webcam model before struggling to scrub her digital footprint.
Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi): Stepping into his father’s footsteps of keeping massive, dark secrets, Nate operated as a seemingly functional married man to Cassie while secretly sinking deep into financial ruin with dangerous criminal syndicates. His multi-million dollar debts eventually cost him his life.
Is It Possible Euphoria Will Be Renewed For Season 4?
While Sam Levinson has literally threatened to release a season 4, the future of Euphoria beyond season three is highly unlikely, with industry insiders widely predicting that the current season will mark the series’ definitive end.
The production has faced immense real-world hurdles, including staggering four-year production delays and the tragic real-life passings of beloved cast members Angus Cloud and Eric Dane. Additionally, fans love to joke that season 4 would air in 2040.
Furthermore, the show’s core cast members have blossomed into undeniable, A-list Hollywood powerhouses whose explosive schedules make coordinating another season near-impossible: Zendaya has solidified herself as a fashion icon and is busy commanding massive box-office success with blockbusters like Dune and leading major luxury fashion campaigns.
Sydney Sweeney has become an absolute darling of the big screen, has had consistent movie roles, multi-picture deals with studios like Amazon, and has anchored massive romantic comedies.
Sydney Sweeney has established herself as a prolific Hollywood producer. Jacob Elordi’s cinematic demand has completely skyrocketed, with the actor booking prestigious leading roles back-to-back, including starring as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s highly anticipated adaptation of Wuthering Heights opposite Margot Robbie.
With the primary cast firmly graduating into mainstream movie stardom and the story reaching a lethal peak, the creative and logistical era of Euphoria has effectively run its course.
