A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded at Walt Disney World Resort as Summer Equitz lost her life, leaving visitors in shock and sparking an ongoing investigation.

Summer Equitz Disney Super Fan Florida

The death of 31-year-old Summer Equitz, a lifelong and passionate Disney superfan, has been tragically confirmed as a suicide at the Walt Disney World Contemporary Resort in Florida.

A worried relative posted a frantic missing person alert on a now-deleted Reddit thread for Disney fans hours before the death announcement was made public.

The concerned relative noted that Equitz had flown to Orlando from her home in Naperville, Illinois, “without telling us,” and simply wrote that they “just want her found.”

The Missing Person Alert

The deleted post also mentioned her deep affection for the resort, as it was where she had spent her honeymoon, a place she associated with great joy and solace. Equitz was a known Disney superfan, having shared numerous pictures of herself at the parks.

Summer Equitz and her husband, Nico Danilovich, marked their honeymoon at Walt Disney World in August. Equitz had announced her pregnancy in December 2024 via Facebook, though it is not known if she had given birth or suffered a miscarriage.

However, she never spoke about the pregnancy again in the past 10 months, suggesting that it did not end on a happy note.

The Disney enthusiast was also an actress who had been performing theater since a young age. In an interview, she revealed that she loved being on stage and enjoyed the whole theater production. She began acting in 2nd grade; by the fourth grade, she was in love with the art of performing.

She said: “Since about 2nd grade but I didn’t get really excited about musical theater until 4th grade, that was the first time I had been in a show where I wasn’t just in the ensemble.”

She, of course, touched on her love of Disney, saying: “Beauty and the Beast” is my favorite Disney show of all time so I just had to be in it! I did it with my best friend, Sarah, we both had such a great time we had to come back for all the other shows!”

Summer Equitz appears in several photos taken at Disney, including a particularly gleeful picture with CEO Bob Iger in 2021, which she captioned as a “peak moment in my life.”

Details of the Incident

Videos that appeared online showed multiple emergency vehicles rushing to the hotel, near the park’s Magic Kingdom, on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, frantic 911 calls were made after guests reported seeing a dead body. In a brief press conference, the Orange County Sheriff’s confirmed the apparent suicide.

The local medical examiner in Orange County subsequently confirmed the victim’s identity as Summer Equitz, stating that she died by suicide by jumping from a building and suffering from multiple blunt impact injuries.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told PEOPLE Magazine that the incident was an “apparent suicide,” and explained that: “The victim — identified as Summer Equitz — died of multiple blunt impact injuries from a jump at Disney World’s Contemporary Resort near Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, Oct. 14.”

The police also confirmed to PEOPLE that the “individual had not been struck by a monorail, despite information suggesting so on social media.”

Multiple social media users inaccurately claimed that a person died at the resort after being struck by the resort’s monorail; officials vehemently denied that claim, calling the information false.

Police have declined to share more information on the matter, reiterating that it is an ongoing suicide case. It is not clear exactly where the body was found.
