Miss Universe 2025 Winner Emerges From Global Controversy
Fatima Bosch of Mexico was named Miss Universe 2025. She has managed to rise above the other contestants in a competition that was marked by weeks of internal conflict and public scrutiny.
Bosch, a 25-year-old humanitarian, became a standout early on — not only for her performance on stage but also after she was publicly berated by a Thai pageant director during a pre-pageant meeting, an incident that sparked a walkout by fellow contestants.
Her poised response turned her into a fan favorite. And by coronation night, many viewers were already asking, “Who won Miss Universe 2025?” before her name was officially announced.
A Miss Universe Competition Defined by Tension
The annual event is known for pageantry and global celebration. However, the lead-up to this year’s contest was dominated by allegations of mistreatment. And many even thought they would overshadow it entirely. There was also a viral behind-the-scenes confrontation and growing criticism of the organization’s leadership.
The Miss Universe Organization condemned the director’s behavior after the walkout, as international audiences — and even Mexico’s president– expressed support for Bosch.
Judges Resign, Accusing Miss Universe of Bias
The turmoil deepened when two judges abruptly resigned days before the finale. Composer Omar Harfouch claimed the pageant had been influenced by an undisclosed “impromptu” judging panel that predetermined the top 30 contestants.
The organization rejected those claims as “mischaracterizations,” but the controversy added to broader questions about fairness and transparency.
A Broad Global Field and a Historic Debut
Miss Universe still has a wide cultural reach like no other, and social media platforms like X, formerly known as Twitter, can attest to that. The 2025 competition brought together candidates from 120 countries.
Moreover, for the first time, a representative of the Palestinian people was present. Nadeen Ayoub not only competed, she was able to reach the semifinal stage before being eliminated.
Dramatic Onstage Moments Capture Global Attention
Beyond the controversy, the contest mostly stayed true to its usual routine. The national costume showcase featured elaborate tributes to each contestant’s homeland. And Miss USA even got a lot of attention with an eagle-inspired ensemble.
But drama unfolded during the preliminaries when Jamaica’s Gabrielle Henry fell during the evening gown round and was taken away on a stretcher. She was later confirmed to have no broken bones.
Miss Universe’s Traditional Format Continues Amid Chaos
The competition followed its familiar structure: swimwear, evening gown, and final Q&A rounds. The top five — Thailand, Venezuela, the Philippines, the Ivory Coast, and Mexico — spoke about issues that have global reach and how they would use the crown to empower girls worldwide. “Believe in the power of your authenticity,” Bosch said moments before being crowned.
Leadership Shakeup Adds Another Layer to the Miss Universe Saga
Behind the scenes, the Miss Universe Organization continues to navigate instability. A change in leadership that followed the bankruptcy of Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip’s company made things even more blurry. The situation has created uncertainty, with the newly appointed CEO Mario Búcaro taking charge just weeks before the competition began.
Thailand is now ancient history and the spotlight now turns to Puerto Rico, where next year’s pageant will be held. The organization is grappling with renewed pressure to rebuild trust, transparency, and stability.
