A family and community are mourning the tragic deaths of Dr. Krystal Cascetta and her 4-month-old baby. New York police confirmed that on Saturday, at around 7 am, Dr. Krystal Cascetta entered a bedroom, locked the door, and shot her baby girl.

Dr. Cascetta, 40, then turned the gun on herself and pulled the trigger. According to the police report, Cascetta’s parents were at the home the day the murder-suicide took place.

The parents told the authorities they heard the first gunshot and believed that something heavy fell. However, when they heard a second gunshot, they ran to the bedroom and discovered the door was locked.

The parents were forced to break down the door, only to discover the lifeless bodies in the bedroom. The horrific events occurred at Dr. Krystal Cascetta’s Somers $1 million home.

The doctor lived with her husband, Tim Talty, who was not in the home in New York when the crime was committed. State Trooper Steven Nevel revealed that a person called 911 from the home.

The police said in a statement: “A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby, and then turned the gun on herself. The scene is consistent with a murder/suicide.”

Dr. Krystal Cascetta was a Hematology-Oncology specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital. Cascetta was truly compassionate and cared for her patients — qualities that earned her an award.

Mount Sinai Health System said in a statement: “The Mount Sinai community is greatly saddened by the tragic loss of a Mount Sinai Health System doctor and her child. We extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Cascetta’s family, friends, colleagues, and patients.”

Cascetta’s husband owns protein bar company Talty Bars

According to her bio, she graduated from Albany Medical College. Cascetta and her husband were collaborators.

Talty is the owner of the protein bar company, Talty Bars, and Cascetta used her medical expertise to “help advise in the creation of the product.”

According to Talty Bars’ website, it was a childhood goal for Cascetta to become a doctor. Cascetta decided to jump into the medical field in 8th grade after the loss of her best friend’s mother.

Talty Bars’ website reads: “The people closest to Krystal will tell you that being a doctor is in her DNA. Krystal, herself, will tell you that she has wanted to be a doctor for as long as she can remember; that even as a child she could be found wrapping her dolls in gauze.”

It went on to reveal: “When Krystal was in 8th grade, her mother’s best friend passed away from breast cancer. It was this life-altering event that helped Krystal decide that Medical Oncology would be her specialty.”

Tim Talty has not spoken to the media as he deals with the family tragedy. However, the authorities were forced to give an update on the case to address the alibi and the unthinkable conspiracy involving Tim Talty.

Police rule out conspiracy theories about husband Tim Talty

Steven Nevel said in a statement to TODAY that the grieving husband and father was not involved in the murder-suicide of his wife and only child.

Nevel stated: “The trolls on social media are dragging the husband through the mud. But I can tell you 100% unequivocally, without a doubt, that he did not do this.”

Via Twitter, Instagram, and other social media networks, internet invigilators inaccurately claimed that Talty was the person who alerted the authorities about the deaths.

He added: “It’s really easy for people to come up with conspiracy theories.”

The officer once more explained that the 37-year-old entrepreneur was not at home during the incident. The police did not reveal what led to the horrifying incident.

Postpartum depression, a factor in the murder-suicide?

Moreover, sources have told CBS News they are investigating the possibility that she was dealing with mental health issues.

The New York City cancer doctor might have been struggling with postpartum depression. It is believed that the renowned doctor gave birth to a baby girl in March.

Advocate Adriana Pentz told the outlet: “It was absolutely heartbreaking to hear this news.” Medical professionals explain that 20% of new moms battle the condition, no matter their age or social status.

Mental health activists say it is important to give new mothers the support they need. Dr. Catherine Daniels, a psychiatrist at Westchester Medical Center, shared: “With an eye towards women seeming very anxious and concerned about the welfare of the baby, women doubting their own ability to adequately care for the baby, and a real sort of sadness, disinterest, and withdrawal.”

Neighbors speak about the police being called to the home before the murder-suicide

The neighbors have spoken to the media to reveal that there was trouble in the home before the bloody incidents. In the past few months, the police have been called twice to Talty and Dr. Cascetta’s home, according to intrusive neighbors.

It is not known why New York police had to intervene. Neighbor Bob Stuart, 71, told the New York Post: “They had ambulances and police come to their house two, maybe three times this summer. At least twice. I saw the police and ambulances arrive.”

Stuart’s wife, Betsy, also 71, went on to share that the couple was very private, and she was not aware that Dr. Krystal Cascetta was pregnant.

She stated: “Very private people kept to themselves. They came over and introduced themselves when they moved in about two years ago, and then we never heard from them again. We didn’t even know she was pregnant.”

Via Facebook and Reddit, many of Dr. Krystal Cascetta’s patients have reacted to her shocking death. She was described as a caring and patient doctor — which is why it is hard for them to comprehend her final actions on this earth.

Cascetta used her husband’s gun, and investigators believe that severe postpartum psychosis is a probable cause.
