King Charles Rocked by Abdication Pressure as Andrew Scandal Tears Through Palace

King Charles faces renewed questions about his future as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s scandal deepens, his health remains under scrutiny, and Prince William’s harder royal approach looms.

King Charles Abdication Pressure Andrew

King Charles is once again facing difficult questions about the future of the monarchy as his continued health battle, the ongoing fallout around Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and the growing influence of Prince William collide behind palace walls.

UK barrister and broadcaster Andrew Eborn addressed the issue during an appearance on Sky News Australia with host Danica De Giorgio, where he discussed whether the pressure surrounding Andrew’s latest legal troubles could add to the strain already facing the King.

Eborn made it clear that he does not believe King Charles would be forced to abdicate. However, he did acknowledge that there are reasons the monarch may be considering what the future could look like.

“There are reasons that he’s looking at it,” Eborn said, while stressing that no final arrangement appears to have been made.

Andrew Eborn Says King Charles Has Not Been In The Best Health

The discussion came after reports that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is being investigated over potential sex crimes, including claims involving a woman allegedly taken to his Windsor home for sexual purposes and another allegation involving inappropriate behavior at Royal Ascot in 2002. Andrew has denied the allegations.

Eborn described the situation as “an absolute stain on the royal family” and “a seismic moment in royal history,” arguing that the scandal has created a serious problem for the monarchy at a time when King Charles is already dealing with personal health challenges.

The broadcaster said Charles deserves credit for continuing to carry out public duties despite not being fully well.

“King Charles, to his credit, has not been in the best of health,” Eborn said.

He added that the King has remained visible in recent months, attending major events and continuing to make royal appearances. But Eborn also admitted that the schedule is demanding for a monarch facing health issues.

“He’s doing the rounds, but it is exhausting, and he’s had his own challenges,” he said.

Palace Abdication Planning Does Not Mean Charles Is Leaving

Eborn was careful not to present abdication as a settled decision. Instead, he framed the issue as part of the monarchy’s normal need to prepare for every possible scenario.

He explained that there have been plans discussed “as there always are” because the palace must know what would happen if a monarch chose to step aside.

That distinction matters. Planning for abdication is not the same thing as announcing it. But the fact that the subject is being discussed at all shows how much pressure surrounds King Charles’s reign.

The British monarchy has long treated abdication as an uncomfortable subject. Queen Elizabeth II stayed on the throne until her death, rendering lifelong service the standard modern expectation. Eborn noted that abdication still carries a “bitter taste” because of the historic shadow of King Edward VIII, who gave the throne in 1936 over his relationship with Wallis Simpson.

That history makes the idea especially sensitive for Charles.

Prince William Could Take A Much Harder Line

The conversation also turned to Prince William, who Eborn said has long believed his father should have acted more forcefully and more quickly over Andrew.

According to Eborn, William felt Charles should have been “a lot stronger and a lot quicker” in stripping titles rather than allowing the process to unfold slowly.

That point could be crucial for the future of the monarchy. If Charles were ever to step aside, William and Princess Catherine would inherit not just the crown but also the unresolved reputational damage left by years of royal scandal. Eborn suggested the Prince of Wales would likely approach those problems with far less hesitation.

“William will be a lot more ruthless than his father,” Eborn said.

That comment captures the larger tension now facing the royal family. Charles has tried to balance tradition, loyalty, and damage control. William, by contrast, is increasingly seen as a future king who would address problems more quickly and protect the institution more aggressively.

The Monarchy Faces A Brutal Timing Problem

For King Charles, the throne has come with little breathing room. After Queen Elizabeth II’s long and steady reign, he has had to deal with family scandals, the endless Harry and Meghan debate, Andrew’s disgrace, and a health battle that has kept the palace under scrutiny.

Now, Andrew’s legal problems are dragging the monarchy back into another damaging cycle of headlines.

Eborn said the allegations and investigations surrounding Andrew are clearly “playing on their mind” inside the royal family.

That does not mean that abdication is imminent. It does mean that the palace has to think seriously about continuity, public faith and whether Charles can carry the full burden of the crown while managing his health.

King Charles Remains Active, But The Pressure Is Building

Eborn praised Charles for his recent public appearances and even called him “the king of comedy” after his interactions with President Donald Trump. He also pointed to the King’s recent presence at the Chelsea Flower Show as proof that Charles remains engaged and active.

Still, public appearances do not erase the underlying question. How long can King Charles keep up the pace while the monarchy is hit by one crisis after another?

Eborn’s comments did not confirm an abdication. They did not suggest that Charles had made a final decision. But they did place the subject firmly inside the wider royal conversation.

The King is continuing his duties. The palace is preparing for every possibility. And Prince William is waiting in the wings with a very different vision of how the monarchy should handle scandal.

For now, Charles remains on the throne. But the discussion around his future has clearly become harder for the palace to avoid.
